South Asian Canadian Legacy Project

The South Asian Canadian Legacy Project, first of its kind in Canada, showcases the valuable contributions of the South Asian Canadians in British Columbia to our economy, history and culture, and responds to community needs for a robust historic Canadian record. Upon completion of this project, communities will have access to new educational supports, exhibits and online resources showcasing the history and contributions of South Asian Canadians in B.C. as part of the government’s commitment to building a welcoming and inclusive province free of racism and hate.
The proposed project presents opportunities for a four-dimensional partnership-The University of the Fraser Valley’s South Asian Studies Institute (SASI), the Abbotsford Community Foundation, local and regional communities and the participating intern. The SASI will be able to collaborate with its institutional and community stakeholders and other networks to promote its work on the South Asian Canadian Digital Archive which will assist in in digitizing new collections and build community awareness around the South Asian Canadian Legacy Project.
