Techno-economic assessment of the potential of grid-scale super-capacitor energy storage in wholesale electricity markets and electric transportation sector

Atlas power Technologies Inc. has developed a SCES technology from inexpensive and widely available minerals which have fast response time, high charge/discharge efficiency, low cost, and long cycle life. Atlas power technologies aim at developing an assessment tool for its future investment in these energy storage units particularly targeted at wholesale electricity markets and electric transportation sector. This research project is intended to develop the necessary planning and computation models needed. Additionally, this project will develop a techno-economic comparative analysis of the SCES technology with the existing energy storage technologies in the targeted application areas. Results from this research project will help Atlas power Technologies Inc. in optimizing its investment decisions and to yield the maximum return on investment.
