The study on the surface modification of LTA zeolite membrane

In the field of organic solvent dehydration, pervaporation technology has a certain advantage over the conventionally-used distillation and absorption. Pervaporation technology not only reduces cost but also improves separation efficiency. Zeolite membrane, specifically the LTA-type, offers a promising alternative to the current use of polymer membranes within the field of organic solvent dehydration due to its ability to allow only water to pass through it. The objective of this research project is to change the surface of LTA zeolite membrane using various organic molecules, including dopamine, polydimethylsiloxane and lignin. In this project, the LTA seed is firstly hydrothermally synthesized, and then is ball-milled to increase the seed activity. The organic molecules are then used to modify the membrane layer or hollow fiber substrate, which should increase the membrane’s selectivity without affecting its permeance. TO BE CONT’D
