City Proper, recently rebranded as Whereabouts, is a digital platform aimed to align the interests of destination marketing organizations (DMOs), tour operators and tourists. Tourism operations of all sizes are facing financial hardship because of the pandemic. Tourist destinations are controlled by OTAs which take between 15-30% of the revenue as commission. Whereabouts is designed to empower local tourism operators by cutting out the middlemen OTAs and providing them with more money to recover from the pandemic. DMOs also benefit by providing their tourism operators with more value through data sharing and regional collaboration. The pandemic has made it essential for all businesses to have a digital presence. Whereabouts allows tourism operators of all sizes to promote themselves, take online bookings, and contact tourists.
