The disruption we all faced in 2020 was deeply experienced in the food system. As shoppers saw empty grocery shelves they understood on a visceral level the fragility of the global food system. YYC Growers did not experience this disruption and in fact increased our reach with our delicious local food. We have a vibrant, though small, local food shed that is proud to be growing food in ways that improve ecological outcomes. The project we are proposing will quantify both the economic and climate impacts of eating locally. These two impacts will be considered as the foundation to clarify the right organizational structure to scale this important work of access to clean food that improves life on the planet to other communities around Alberta and across Canada.
