Addressing Housing Needs in New Brunswick: New Brunswick Non-Profit Housing Association

The New Brunswick Non-Profit Housing Association (NBNPHA) represents 180 non-profit and co-op housing organizations that own and operate 6,500 rental units in the province. The NBNPHA provides fee-for-service consulting for its members and other non-profit housing groups to help develop rejuvenation, renovation, and new build projects. Services include writing funding proposals, project management, building design, and construction owner’s representative.

A recent report completed by economist David Campbell titled “Housing Demand by Region in New Brunswick Through 2030” concludes that rural New Brunswick requires about 3,000 new housing starts per year over the next five years to grow the workforce by 0.5% per year. The current trajectory of housing starts is about 1,200 per year. In other words, housing starts need to more than double in the province now.

This project will provide the New Brunswick Non-Profit Housing Association with an in-depth analysis and interpretation of the financial state of the non-profit organizations that are currently members of the NBNPHA. This project will help the NBNPHA develop more informed and efficient decisions regarding housing metrics, funding, and support throughout the province and begin addressing the above challenges.
