Botulinum toxin type A for injection of bilateral upperextremity tremor in patients with Essential Tremor usingkinematic assessment

Current treatment options for tremor, the most common movement disorder, are quite poor. Discontinuation of compliance to oral medications is due to significant side effects and no noticeable benefit in tremor severity. Botulinim toxin type A is a recognized tremor therapy however, adverse events and the inability of Movement Disorder Neurologists to visually locate these tremor-causing muscles results in abandoning the use of BoNT-A injections. This project aims to provide an objective method using motion sensors to guide MDNs in determining individualized muscle selection and dosing parameters. This will improve tremor treatment, improve functional benefits to patients and give physicians the new option to properly target the tremor muscles in the limb to increase efficacy of the treatment and lower the risk of side-effects.
