Development of a warehouse slotting model to improve picking performance

Asmodee Canada Inc. is a French publisher of board games, role-playing games and card games with one of its warehouses located in Quebec. The warehouse has two segregated sections to fulfil orders of B2B (business to business) and B2C (business to customer). Order fulfilment operations involve manual picking of orders. The project aims to maximize the number of orders fulfilled daily by reducing picking time in B2B section of the warehouse. Some of the challenges in the project are:
a.) As some aisles are narrow, they lead to congestion when several pickers are picking.
b.) As the board game industry has constant changes in products, there are storage changes needed based on sales, therefore they need to be relocated periodically.
The goal is to organize all the items in the warehouse to reduce the time a picker takes to complete the order picking.
The partner organization will benefit from the study in terms of better slotting of its SKUs and, hence, an improved order processing on a daily basis.
