In recent years, many studies have investigated and demonstrated the positive effects of electromagnetic field (EMF) stimulation on fracture healing, pain management, cancer treatment, or neurological disorders. With the increasing number of diabetes patients in the current society, the use of EMF could potentially be used as a new alternative and non-invasive method to treat or control diabetes by modulating insulin and blood glucose levels. The objective of this proposal is to develop a stem cell-derived model of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) that will enable the identification of the potential mechanisms of action of how EMF interacts with insulin and blood glucose levels in vitro and assess how these mechanisms may be drawn on for therapeutic benefit.
