Finning Canada, as the world’s largest Caterpillar dealer, operates across diverse industries, including mining, construction, petroleum, and forestry, while maintaining a strong commitment to community investment and support. However, the organization faces a pressing challenge in fully realizing its potential for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within its workforce and corporate culture. The need for a comprehensive DEI strategy is critical to address disparities and to create a workplace that genuinely reflects the communities it serves. This project seeks to not only identify and rectify current gaps in DEI practices but also to develop innovative initiatives that foster a culture of belonging, engagement, and empowerment among employees.
The improvement priority for Finning is to create actionable plans that effectively integrate DEI principles into all aspects of the organization, from recruitment to employee engagement and retention. By developing and implementing tailored resources, the DEI intern will enable employees to advocate for and participate in DEI initiatives actively. The expertise required to tackle this problem encompasses knowledge of DEI best practices, strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups. The intern will be tasked with gathering and analyzing data from audits and research findings to create effective strategies, as well as facilitating the planning and execution of DEI-related events and initiatives. This project will ultimately help Finning transcend its day-to-day operations by embedding DEI values into its corporate ethos, promoting a more inclusive workplace culture that enhances employee satisfaction, innovation, and overall business performance.
