The overall goal of this internship is to understand why candidate psychologists in Saskatchewan are failing the final competency exam at a rate of 30%. Partnering with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists (SKCP), this research will review the records of the failed examinations to determine the contributing reasons for candidate failures. We have three objectives: (1) to improve the training of psychologists across the identified areas of competency that are underdeveloped; (2) to improve supervision and early intervention for candidates who are not performing to minimal standards of practice; and (3) to improve procedures to assess clinical competency of candidate psychologists during the oral exam.
