UBC’s School of Kinesiology and viaSport British Columbia have received unding through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Partnership Development Grant program for a collaboration, titled Level the Field: Disability Inclusion in Sport. This work combines UBC’s research expertise and viaSport’s applied knowledge in an effort to understand how the sport sector can be made more inclusive for people with disabilities. Key to this work is understanding the roles of different provincial sport organizations and disabilty sport organization in delivering sport opportunities that are disabilty inclusive. The Mitacs Intern will conduct interviews with key actors in the BC sport sector to understand what the organizations are currently doing and the interdependencies between organizations. This knowledge will enable viaSport to more effectively fund organizations to deliver disability inclusive programming and to evaluate their investment based on areas where the organizations can reasonably be expected to have influence and impact.
