Operationalizing Key Quality Indicators of Glaucoma and Cataract Care in Alberta

Glaucoma and cataracts are separate, but serious conditions of the eyes. If not properly managed, both can lead to significant vision loss. Currently, there is limited quality monitoring of vision care across the Alberta. The standardized use of performance measures that evaluate the glaucoma and cataract care is paramount to improving the quality of vision care across the province. The purpose of this study is to explore how to provincially integrate a key set of performance measures of glaucoma and cataract quality of care. This project will co-design implementation strategies based on the preferences and priorities of vision care providers and individuals living with glaucoma and cataracts to support the consistent monitoring of vision quality of care. By developing feasible and sustainable provincial quality monitoring strategies, we will support Alberta Health Services to effectively monitor and enhance vision care practices to improve patient outcomes and efficiency of healthcare delivery.
