Student Placement Project: Mobile Solution

Preferred Health Care Services is implementing a Blackberry scheduling and
documenting system to replace the traditional telephony system. The new technology is
envisioned to improve personal support workers and nurse managers’ business processes.
The study examines the changes in key performance indicators including the number of
missed visits, unarranged visits, duplicated (double booked) visits, data accuracy, and the
employee’s satisfaction level. From the broader perspective, the study will conduct a costbenefit
analysis and to prove/reject the recent trend of mobile technology deployment home
care sector. The study will also briefly touch upon the change management aspect since it is
extremely difficult and especially challenging for home care organizations due to many
reasons including: difficult communication due to geographically scattered frontline
practitioners, wide range of services, and larger proportion of older frontline practitioners. The
change management is the key to the successful implementation of new technological
solutions and the study will outline how the blackberry solution is to be deployed and
implemented.
