Aquaculture now accounts for approximately half of all fish and shellfish consumed
worldwide. With increasing production costs and public concern over emitted wastes, there is
much effort towards increasing the efficiency of operations, namely that of feed use.
However, assessing the effects of the many factors contributing to productivity and efficiency,
(eg. various feed types, culture techniques, genetic strains of fish, etc.) is very expensive at
the commercial level. As has been showed in other animal production industries, the
analysis of production records using mathematical models provides an excellent and practical
mean to gauge farm performance and identify the strengths and weaknesses of various
production models. It is the aim of Veridas to develop a continuous improvement framework
(CIF) which integrates a performance recording system and a series of robust mathematical
nutritional models. Available online to the farmer, the CIF would summarize key performance
parameters relative to industry standards and provide functions for the farmer in predicting….TOBECONT’D
