The Vancity Community Foundation, through its Living Wage for Families BC initiative, addresses the pressing issue of working poverty in British Columbia. Despite economic growth, many workers struggle to meet basic living costs due to the rapidly rising expenses of essentials like food and housing. Living Wage BC strives to bridge the gap between merely surviving and truly thriving by advocating for fair wages that allow workers to live without financial stress, participate fully in society, and enjoy economic security. However, as the costs of living surge, the organization faces a complex challenge: how to expand its influence to address the broader conditions affecting workers’ ability to earn a living wage. The innovation challenge for Living Wage BC is to enhance public awareness and engagement around the importance of a living wage, while strengthening partnerships with businesses, unions, and governments to create lasting impact across communities. This project aims to support Living Wage BC in advancing its mission beyond its current operations by amplifying its voice through impactful storytelling and digital content creation. By recording and publishing stories of low-wage workers and living wage employers, the Living Wage Intern will deepen public understanding of the real-world impact of fair wages, thus encouraging wider adoption and advocacy for the Living Wage initiative. This project requires expertise in multimedia content creation, project management, strategic communication, and social policy awareness to effectively communicate the complexities of working poverty and drive meaningful change in the policy landscape.
