Accelerate Getting Research into Practice (A-GRIP)

There is a growing disconnect between the areas of focus in innovation research occurring at universities and the practical concerns, needs and direction of the animal production industry. Research has shown that ongoing communication and interaction between researchers and end-users is necessary, both before and during research, in order to ensure that research conducted is applicable and meets industry needs. Therefore, this proposal aims to increase knowledge transfer between producers and researchers via the development of digital content – namely, (1) a series of producer interviews, to highlight the state-of-the-art of innovation on-farm in Ontario, and production pinch-points, (2) a series of researcher interviews, to discuss the highs and lows of getting research into practice (GRIP), and (3) white articles to summarize the findings as well as to highlight recent trends and challenges in the industry (eg. with respect to climate change, use of antimicrobials, etc.). The overall goal is to bridge the gap and allow (in particular) early career researchers, graduate and undergraduate students improved insight into on-farm innovation, production pinch points, and what it takes to get research into practice, such that their research programs become better informed and more applicable to real-world problems.
