Acceptance and Commitment Training with Autistic Youth and Young Adults

Autistic youth and adults often experience a drop-off in supports as they transition to adulthood, especially in evidence-based interventions that support their mental health and wellbeing. Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) is an evidence-based therapy based on mindfulness and behavioural principles that has preliminary support to improve the wellbeing of autistic people. The present project plans to 1) co-develop an ACT intervention with autistic youth and adults, 2) pilot and evaluate this intervention delivered in a group format with 6-8 autistic youth and adults, and 3) co-create an ACT manual for autistic youth and young adults. This group-based ACT intervention will fill a vital gap in the services currently offered to autistic youth and adults at CAMH, while also providing important information about its feasibility and effectiveness.
