Analyzing the Complex Interplay between Absenteeism Predictors: A Cumulative and Multiple Individual Risk Model

Through a well-established partnership with Ottawa’s Children’s Coordinated Access and Referral to Services in Ottawa, this internship project will examine factors affecting school attendance problems of youth at risk of serious consequences (i.e., unsuccessful educational completion, behavioral problems, and unmet mental health needs, etc.), with the goal of better understanding the complexity of these factors to improve the youth’s educational achievement, high school completion, and post-secondary opportunities. Partaking in this project will contribute to Coordinated Access’ development of interventions aim at reducing school absenteeism and efforts to support students with behavioral and mental health difficulties. Through our collaboration, awareness will be raised among educators, policymakers, and the wider community about the consequences of school absenteeism.
