Bridging the Gap – Health and Safety Engineering Student Teaching Modules – Stage 2

This project is an undertaking in coordination with Minerva Canada, some of its industry partners and seven Canadian universities which aims to address a gap between industry and the graduates of engineering programs in terms of attitudes, knowledge and applied skills pertaining to health & safety in engineering practice. Upon completion, the project’s end product will include 8 stand-alone teaching modules that can be integrated into one of the four years of an engineering program related to health & safety for universities across Canada. This project is currently in the second stage of the third phase of the project. The first stage involved developing 11 Health and safety teaching modules that begun in 2013 and is continuing – six draft modules have been completed and are being student tested. Phase 2 provided the input for this project and involved the development of a curriculum plan for content and integration into all four years of engineering. This phase identified the needed core and discipline specific modules. It was completed by Ana Popovic of Queen’s University through a MITACS grant and sponsorship by Minerva Canada.
