Within the City of Edmonton, the Operations Program Delivery and Partnerships (OPDP) team is home to multiple parks programs that make Edmonton more livable, sustainable, and beautiful. The Benchmark Program is one such program. It was established to offer individuals and groups the opportunity to honour loved ones or to celebrate special occasions through the placement of a commemorative plaque on a bench in City parks and open spaces. The Benchmark program
also installs benches in new locations within City parkland, where there is a need for additional seating. The Access Design Guide, built to accompany Accessibility for People with Disabilities Policy C602, specifies that seating nodes shall be located every 100 m along pathways and trails for Metropolitan, District and Community parks in the City of Edmonton. The gap in the provision of benches has been assessed, but the results need to be further refined to guide future placement of benches.
