Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is related to the improper use of insulin in the body and cell resistance to the insulin receiving or loss of cell sensitivity to insulin. Early diagnosis is critical to prevent this disease and postpone or even prevent the serious complications. The blood glucose concentration and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) are the major diagnostic criteria for T2D. Measurement of blood insulin concentration has also shown to be vital for disease diagnosis and treatment. The intern will develop a new capillary microfluidic electrochemical biosensor strip that can address this gap and use it to simultaneously detect glucose, insulin, and HbA1c in the blood of T2D patients. The clinical performance of this PoC will be examined by testing it with blood samples of patients with T2D and compared to the gold standard assays. The project will benefit the partner to develop a minimum viable product that can be used for rapidly diagnosis of T2D, putting the technology in a higher readiness level for further developing clinical experimentation needed for regulatory submission.
