This research project is a feasibility study designed to assess the viability of employing advanced technology for oilfield environmental site assessment and restoration. The conventional labor-intensive and manual process of evaluating oilfield sites for potential remediation or reclamation is performed in the field at high cost. Our primary objective is to investigate the feasibility of remote site assessments through the analysis of satellite imagery. The proposed methodology entails the utilization of satellite imagery to offer valuable insights into various facets of oilfield sites, including the detection of hydrocarbon and saltwater contamination, the identification of heavy metals or minerals, monitoring of vegetation growth, change detection in soil conditions, assessment of surface water changes, and recognition of onsite industrial equipment.
