Evaluation of three Victorian Human Ecology education curricula

This project will investigate, reflect on, and compare the pedagogical frameworks of human ecology/home economics education in the three Australian education streams: State, Private, and Catholic. It will assess how Victorian human ecological pedagogy incorporates curriculum, and consequently, classroom content in several domains, including HMEC and Indigenous peoples. Additional aspects that will be examined include the training of human ecology educators, their job potential, the demographics of pupils studying human ecology/home economics, and the greater societal outcomes associated with more recent curricula (e.g. health and well-being). Research methods will include document review and semi-formal interviews with key informants associated with human ecology/home economics education in Victoria. I will share my findings with other educators and professional home economists, and those who train human ecology/home economics teachers. I will document my experiences and findings through a final report, which I hope to publish in the International Journal of Home Economics.
