Helping Newcomers and other Disadvantaged Groups to Develop Social Enterprises in Newfoundland and Labrador

The goals of this partnership are to study the barriers and challenges faced by underrepresented groups (such as recent immigrants, women, people with disability and francophones) establishing their businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador. This study will provide an informative framework that several groups can benefit from. From that goal, many other beneficial actions can occur which may strengthen Newfoundland and Labrador into becoming a powerful migration destination and may alleviate many troubling trends that the province is currently experiencing. The results of this study will help understand the needs of underrepresented groups in the Newfoundland and Labrador labour market, which will provide a reference for the partner organization’s employment support programs for newcomers, employers and entrepreneurs. This, in turn, will lead to the province’s becoming a more inclusive and diverse area.
