This project will carry out original research of a prospective lode gold system located on the western shore of Hudson’s Bay. The location is near the hamlet of Whale Cove. The gold mineralization is intrusive-related, very similar to that of the well known deposits of the Porcupine and Kirkland Lake camps of the southern Abitibi. The research specifically addresses the timing of gold mineralization within the context of related host rock alteration. Currently, there is considerable debate over a Neoarchean or Paleoproterozoic age of mineralization. Resolving this controversy will have direct effects on Northquest’s detailed drilling program. Also, the results of this study will have application to further regional gold exploration in the central Hearne. Establishing this domain as a new economic gold province would have a major effect on the local economy
