Improving Protection for Survivors of Wartime Sexual Violence in Ukraine

This research project aims to improve the legal framework and enhance protection for survivors of wartime gender-based sexual violence against women in Ukraine. The study will analyze existing legal practices and propose recommendations to strengthen legal protections, including reforms in legislation, law enforcement practices, victim support services, and the involvement of civil society organizations in advocacy and awareness-raising. Additionally, the research will explore the long-term consequences of gender-based sexual violence on women’s post-war reintegration, focusing on socio-economic challenges, access to healthcare and psychosocial support, and the role of community and transitional justice processes, taking into account similar expertise of other states or regions. The expected outcome is to contribute towards a more effective legal system and comprehensive support for survivors.
