Improving the Success of Commercializing Early-Stage Innovation Through Targeted Non-Financial Support Mechanisms

This project aims to improve the success rate of bringing innovation to market by determining the effectiveness of various types of non-financial support mechanisms. Ag-West Bio’s services include mentorship, business planning, technical resources and training to startup companies in food and agricultural biosciencs. However, the path for agriculture technology is unique. Compared to other types of technology businesses, such as pharma, fintech or digital (from which these statistics are drawn), ag-technology businesses typically have a longer pathway to commercialization and face more hurdles in regulation and customer acceptance (as examples). The ability to develop targeted networking events that link agriculture technology to end users and enable innovators overcome specific challenges would help grow the sector and make the ecosystem more efficient. A defined process is required to measure the value of these programs.
