Logistics behind implementing smart waste management system

Waste Management (WM) is increasingly becoming one of the major concerns in the modern world. The traditional way of make-use-dispose has created significant challenges for societies due to the increased level of landfills. Therefore, utilizing the generated waste as an integral part of the Circular Economy (CE) concept is turning out to be an important part of the economy of the modern world. Such initiatives have gained momentum by applying the tools and technologies introduced through Industry 4.0 (I4.0). This project proposes using I4.0 tools and technologies to revolutionalize municipal WM. Existing methods of WM have several inefficiencies, for example, a lack of inspiration to reduce the waste generated by each citizen, as well as the inability to measure the household wastes. This project introduces a smart waste management process to municipalities by implementing a one-of-its-kind smart bin product. The industrial partner needs to investigate the feasibility of this project, potential challenges during prototyping and implementation, stakeholders of this project, potential risks to fail the project, supply chain issues, and proving the sustainability of the project.
