Microfluidic-compatible photonic temperature sensor

This project will develop a temperature sensing and control system for microfluidic systems. Microfluidic systems are devices that can move and analyze small volumes of liquid for many applications, including health care applications. The temperature control system will be made up of several components. The first is essentially a thermometer. This thermometer will use an optical device which changes the amount of light transmitted depending on the temperature. This optical thermometer will not interfere with the microfluidic devices. The optical device will be made from plastic and will be integrated directly with the microfluidic system. The second part is a thermostat, which will control the temperature. This will be a control board external to the microfluidic device. ACAMP will benefit from additional functionality that they can offer to their clients. This temperature control system will improve the stability of the ACAMP’s microfluidic products.
