The SIMBA (Small Intestine MicroBiome Aspiration) capsule is an ingestible capsule designed to collect samples from the small intestine. The safety and efficacy of this device have been demonstrated in healthy volunteers. The aim of this research and development project for the intern student is to develop culturing techniques that are optimized to better characterize the bacteria population in small intestine, first using aspirate samples collected from routine clinical endoscopic procedures and then through a clinical validation study.
