Pilot Canadian School Survey / Sondate auprès des écoles canadiennes: project pilote

These two internships (one English, one French) will contribute to an academic partnership with People for Education in order to develop a pan-Canadian survey of educational resources and opportunitiesl. The survey will fill a gap in comparable, interprovincial data on the connection between school context and educational resources / policy implementation at the school level, and support public dialogue about the role of schools in facing up to major social challenges.
As part of the research team, the PhD student interns will contribute to, and learn from overall survey recruitment including principal follow-up, data cleaning, analysis and linkages through their six-month engagement. Each intern will have individual responsibility for conducting topical policy scans, and developing conference presentations and an academic paper and contributing to public-facing reports on key policy problems. The two specific policy problems these internships will focus in on are (1) how are teacher shortages distributed across Canada, by jurisdiction and relative to school-level socio-economic factors, and how are they are impacting education systems’ abilities to provide equitable opportunities for learning; and (2) how are citizenship and civics learning opportunities are distributed across Canada, by jurisdiction and relative to school-level socio-economic factors, and how are they impacting education.
