A new collaboration with the Chair in Energy Systems at Technical University of Munich and the Catalytic & Plasma Processing Engineering laboratory was established in October 2021 through a successful bilateral-funded project on green plasma-catalytic ammonia synthesis. The main objectives of this initial one-year project is to demonstrate the possibility of integrating a plasma source with an existing catalytic plate reactor, and to perform a techno-economic assessment of the technology. The McGill team brings in expertise in plasma and catalytic process engineering and catalysis synthesis modeling, while the TUM team bring expertise in catalyst characterization, reactor and systems level modeling. My contributions to the project are manifold. At McGill, I will contribute to the design, integration and preliminary testing of a plasma source, as well as the early characterization of the catalyst material under thermal catalysis and plasma catalysis conditions. While at TUM, I am to further develop my skills in catalyst characterization, learn systems level modeling tools and contribute to the techno-economic assessment of the technology.
