Processes of resilience and functional recovery among transition-age youth with serious mental illness: Exploring mechanisms of action within an integrated youth mental health service context

The proposed project will support an international collaboration between researchers at the University of Toronto and the University of Melbourne / Orygen. As an integrated youth mental health service centre, built by top researchers leading mental health service reform internationally, Orygen provides an optimal setting to conduct research into complex processes of resilience and functional outcomes among young people experiencing serious mental illness. Using patient-oriented and longitudinal research methods, we aim to explore how a broad range of resilience factors (at the personal, environmental, and health service level) promote functional recovery outcomes over time among youth mental health service users in Australia. The information gained from this project will inform future collaborations focused on understanding how to support the health, well-being, and functioning of young people living with serious mental illness from a holistic and strengths-based perspective.
