The climate of northern Quebec and Labrador is strongly influenced by climate change and internal (natural) climate variability on time scales ranging from years to decades. Internal variability occurs without human influence and can superimpose onto the anthropogenically forced climate change signal, thus adding uncertainty in the assessment of local climate change impacts. Northern communities being highly vulnerable to changes in their natural environment, it is therefore critical to better quantify internal variability and how it may change in the future. The objective of this project is therefore to quantify the future evolution of internal climate variability in the context of climate change over the region of northern Quebec and Labrador. In line with the Ouranos mission to improve the climatic information delivered to decision makers that develop climate change adaptation strategies, this project will help to find solutions that are in phase with the northern reality.
