Pelvic floor disorders (PFD) affect up to 50% of the female population and include stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP). The non-surgical treatment for POP and SUI is pessaries, which are intravaginal devices, fitted through trial-and-error. While pessaries are an effective treatment option, many patients will have to try multiple pessaries before the correct sizing is found and some will not find the right fit. There is a clinical need to improve the pessary fit and the fitting process. Cosm Medical has designed and developed personalized pessaries to address patients’ unique needs to improve patient outcomes.
In this project, 3D ultrasound images and videos of the pelvic floor in patients with SUI and POP will be analyzed to determine parameters that may impact pessary personalization. This project has the potential to improve the pessary fitting process and improve the quality of life of patients affected by PFDs.
