Spatial distribution and environmental stressors of kelp forests in the Broughton Archipelago, BC

The objective of this project is assessing the current distribution of kelp forests and to identify potential areas where the environmental conditions could enhance the development and resilience of kelp forests in the Broughton Archipelago, northeast of Vancouver Island. This information will help research, managers, communities, and Bamfield Marine Science Centre, the partner organization, to understand the distribution and health state of kelp forest along the Broughton Archipelago. Furthermore, it would be important to guide efficient planning and management of kelp forest, which is a priority of Mamalilikulla, ‘Na_mg_is, and Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis First Nations in their aim to help wild salmon populations to recovery.
