As the population of older Canadians increases, so too does the number of persons living with dementia. Our research project aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Canadians by focusing on improving the dementia friendliness/inclusivity of our cities (where many older persons choose to live). Ten (10) persons living with dementia and their care partners will be recruited to take part in a one-month pilot where they will directly be involved in the design, data collection, and analysis and interpretation of results. Data will be collected simply, quickly and in real time using either a smart phone or paper-based booklet and be used to promote local action about neighborhood dementia- and age-friendliness/inclusiveness and knowledge around its impact on health and well-being. The project also aims to benefit service providers in the community who will have the opportunity to participate in training programs developed by the project partner, access resources and receive a “dementia inclusive” designation.
