Tangible Characterization Toolkit: High-Level Physical Sketches in Tangible Interaction Design for Creating Rapid and Meaningful Prototype

This project explores how interaction designers can use physical objects to ‘sketch’ out ideas for interactive experiences. Just as a painter might first sketch his or her idea in pencil, interaction designers can use the objects in this toolkit to create 3D sketches of their ideas in the real world. Each of the objects is embedded with a sensor, light, motor, sound, or other ‘behavior’, which, when combined together, create a simplified version of a larger interactive experience. The objects can be combined in different ways to test different ideas, sensors, actions, etc. These ‘sketched experiences’ can be useful both to designers, to see their ideas in action, and to potential clients, in order to help them understand the designers’ vision.
