The Constituent Power of International Organizations

The research that I will be conducting is concerns non-governmental international organizations (INGO) and their influence on the writing of the constitution in Tunisia. I want to know how they participated and what compelled them to do so. The ways that I hypothesize these INGO’s participated are through connections with domestic organizations or directly with a policy maker. In order to retrieve this information, I will being conducting interviews with members of the Constituent Assembly, members of NGO’s and INGO members. What I expect to discover during my research is that INGO’s were actively participating during the writing of the constitution and, as such, played an influential role in its framing. I also expect to find that many of these organizations were compelled to participate in an effort to ensure constitutional protection of their cause, whether it is human rights or freedom of association.
