This project focuses on the power dissipation study of an ultrasonic guidewire under the frequency range from 1 to 6 MHz. There has been little research done in the field of using ultrasonic power transmission in angioplasty guidewires to perform drug delivery on drug-eluting stents. By using the results of this study, a new ultrasonic actuator design would be delivered. This new devices creates an ideal condition for drugs to be absorbed by human blood vessels. Also, the device has a possible function of blood vessel plaque removal. By using this proposed new device, the Vancouver General Hospital could reduce the death rate of using drug-eluting stents as well as save funds for purchasing plaque-removal devices.
