Using dance to promote physical literacy in children and youth: An examination of the Sharing Dance program

Children in Canada have become less physically active; in fact, only 9% of Canadian children meet the guidelines that are recommended. A number of different programs have been created to help children move better and feel more confident with their movement skills. Sharing Dance is a community program that uses dance to help children become healthier and more physically active. We are interested in seeing if it also helps children move better and feel more confident with their movement skills. We will do this by looking at two different groups of children – those taking part in the Sharing Dance program and those who are not – and seeing if there are any differences in their movement skills and their confidence in their movement skills. We will also talk to the children taking part in the Sharing Dance program to learn about their experiences in the program.
