Vancity Community Foundation – Living Wage and Food Insecurity Intern

Since 2006, Living Wage for Families has been on a dedicated mission to combat working poverty in British Columbia, even in a province known for its substantial wealth. This journey began with the calculation of the living wage, representing the income necessary for full-time workers to meet basic needs and escape poverty. Over the years, we have expanded our efforts to include raising awareness, advocating for change, and certifying Living Wage Employers. Our determination has led to the accreditation of numerous employers committed to ensuring both direct and contracted staff receive a living wage. However, due to the rising costs of living, stagnant wages, and employment instability, many low-wage workers continue to experience working poverty. Recognizing the need for a solution, Living Wage for Families is broadening its scope to address all factors influencing the achievement of a living wage. The internship opportunity will significantly contribute to policy development in the critical areas of food insecurity and affordability. The intern will lead an extensive research project, collaborating with esteemed organizations to collect evidence, conduct analysis, and propose necessary changes. This will involve close cooperation with key stakeholders and community partners, ultimately producing vital policy development and food insecurity research reports, collaborative proposals, and impactful data.
