XGFNG Election Code and Band Membership Review Project

Xeni Gwet’in is one of the six communities that form the T?ilhqot’in Nation located in the traditional T?ilhqot’in territory approximately 200km west of Williams Lake. Xeni Gwet’in is the only community in Canada to have received Aboriginal Title land that is recognized by the Supreme Court of Canada, which means that 1700 square kilometres of land is being transitioned to T?ilhqot’in full management, benefit and control. The government is composed of a chief and two councillors who are responsible for making decisions on behalf of the First Nation and its members. In February 2023, we will be going into election year. We have a custom election code, which required to be reviewed and updated to ensure that it’s a fair and transparent process. This project will support with reviewing the election code, engaging with community members and making the necessary updated to be adopted before election date.
