Hybrid Power Solutions Inc. was founded in 2015 in response to the need for better-performing portable electric systems. The potential of electric systems has yet to be grasped, and with the advent of battery technology, compact componentry, and miniature high-power motors, the time is now. Hybrid Power Solutions produces patent-pending portable battery systems and customized […]

In 2020, colorectal cancer was newly diagnosed in nearly 2 million patients and associated with approximately 1 million deaths, making it the second most deadly cancer globally. In colorectal cancer, staging (i.e., determining if the cancer has spread) is the single most important factor in patient survival. Existing healthcare systems struggle to deliver accurate staging, […]

As the urgency for action against climate change increases, local governments around the world are committing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through deep decarbonization targets. Cities are the largest place-based sources of GHG emissions and therefore have great potential to reduce emissions on a global scale. To reach net-zero by 2050, transformative change is not […]

Road safety has been a major concern to everyone. Geotab has collected driving and environmental data from over 2 million connected vehicles, looking for the solution for safe communities and cities. To reduce accidents, it is needed to understand both driving behavioral patterns that are predictive of accidents, and the environmental factors involved. To achieve […]

Carnivores are critical components of ecosystems and changes to carnivore communities can impact entire food webs. Modern North American carnivore communities are sparse compared with those elsewhere, with many of the largest species having gone extinct at the end of the Pleistocene, about 11.7 thousand years ago. Today, many species of carnivore that survived the […]

Infrasonic signatures are long wave acoustic signals in the under 20 Hz range (below human hearing). The partner organization has been experimenting with infrasonic sensor systems to achieve 2 key outcomes: a) detection clear air turbulence to benefit commercial air travel and b) detection of marine vessels. The ability to detect clear air turbulence from […]

In the human visual system, light that reaches the eye is processed by the brain and understood in shapes, colours, and intensities. In the instance of digital cameras, light that reaches a camera sensor must undergo processing to be presented in a human-readable format. The process that achieves this task is known as the in-camera […]

This research study will allow PhD candidate Charlotte Smith, mentored by Dr. Malenfant and Dr. Spencer, to engage a team of at-risk and homeless youth in a collaborative study by working closely with the community partner, Operation Come Home. Charlotte and Malenfant will provide 5 youth with research training including methods, ethics and more. The […]

This project works towards an unhackable quantum internet. An unhackable Internet has been named the Number 1 breakthrough technology by the magazine, MIT Technological Review. A quantum Internet will be unhackable due to the laws of physics. Photons are the carrier of choice for quantum information in a quantum internet. Quantum repeaters are needed for […]

You might have asked Google Assistant what’s the weather like today, or a choice for Valentine’s Day dinner; have you imagined whether Google Assistant could be your assistant at work too, answering questions such as “Hey Google, what day generates the most revenue?”? At SOTI, we are turning this idea to reality, by integrating our […]

This series of internships will draw heavily upon the expertise within SiMPACT, towards the purpose of developing Social Value Canada as a non-profit professional network that is more equipped to operate independently, including generating ongoing and future revenue. Benefits to SiMPACT include the opportunity to embed its knowledge into a vehicle that can further the […]

Scientific research papers are complex, dense, and filled with jargon, so traditionally the valuable knowledge they contain has been accessible to only a handful of experts. SAGE publishing, one of the world’s largest academic publishers, and Dr. Adam Frost, a cognitive neuroscientist, independently created video formats that help scientists directly communicate their discoveries and practices […]
