COVID-19 has reinforced the importance of Sanctuary’s technology for
enabling remote telework with crucial applications in care and food
production as well as many other industry verticals. As the technology
platform centers around a General Purpose Robot (GPR), the importance of
understanding tasks through a general lens allows for the appropriate
prioritization of commercial deployments and assists in defining the
technology roadmap. A market research intern is required to support our
Chief Commercial Officer in the ongoing valuation of target economic tasks.
In this role you will contribute to the research and analytical efforts of the
commercialization team in support of our growing database of labour
statistics.
You will seek to understand the value of different work tasks. You will focus
on identifying and analysing existing information about relevant occupations
including time-motion studies. In addition, when no published resources are
available for a given occupation, you will perform primary research through
interviews and other methods to understand the task breakdown of that
occupation.
Responsibilities

Victimization of Transgender Persons: A Legal Indo-Canadian Perspective

The research proposes to gauge into the lives of the transgender persons in Canada, primarily in one province and applying the law and principles of victimization assess their present situation. In an endeavor to analyze the legal lacunae, the governmental ignorance and inefficient welfare mechanisms, the research expects to conduct an empirical research to be able to codify the data and analyze the same. The researcher(s) expect to look at the abominable human rights violations with the massive violence that they are met with and develop the patterned victimization they fall a trap to. With library research and aid of scholarly writings in the field of criminal law, victimology and human rights, the efforts would be to propose better legal and policy framework to secure their lives of shame and integrate them to the society. With intriguing the criminal laws in force, the researchers would seek to evaluate the impact it has on their lives and what better they deserve. It is hoped that interviews with the transgender community and other stakeholders including police and government officials, the research would concretely apply the same to the community by adhering to the nuances of applied research.

Polygon Recherche Inc. est en cours d’élaboration d’une nouvelle solution pour faciliter la réalisation de cartes conceptuelles en ligne. Un enjeu important pour la mise en marché de ce type de solution concerne l’efficacité et la transparence des algorithmes utilisés. L’objectif de ce projet est d’évaluer la validité et la stabilité de différentes méthodes d’analyses appliquée à la cartographie conceptuelle, pour pouvoir les intégrer à l’outil en ligne (Insight Forming). Spécifiquement, ce projet vise à i) Faire une revue comparative des algorithmes permettant la réduction de la dimensionnalité et le partitionnement de données, ii) Faire une analyse comparative de la validité interne et de la stabilité des méthodes identifiées, et iii) Rédiger des scripts permettant l’intégration de ces algorithmes. Le stagiaire participera également à la création d’une interface web permettant à l’utilisateur d’explorer dynamiquement les résultats, à la rédaction d’un guide technique et d’un article scientifique sur le travail effectué.

Green and Just Recovery? An Analysis of Energy Policies Adopted in Response to the COVID-19 Economic Crisis

In 2020, the world was plunged into an economic crisis. Measures that have been necessary to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic have shuttered businesses and put people out of work. Governments in many countries are responding with direct payments to individuals and other measures to alleviate suffering. They are also engaging in broader economic stimulus.
Efforts have been made to track COVID-19 economic recovery measures around the world and assess what portion of stimulus is flowing to ‘green’ sectors. One such initiative is the Energy Policy Tracker (www.energypolicytracker.org), developed by a consortium of non-profits and think tanks under the leadership of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD). The objective of this project is to utilise the rich dataset that underpins the tracker to delve into the policy initiatives that the COVID-19 crisis has triggered. A particular emphasis will be given to identifying the extent to which ‘green’ recovery measures also addressed inequality and the need for a just transition.

Le secteur privé est encouragé à adopter les Objectifs de développement durable (ODD) des Nations Unies afin de favoriser leur atteinte. Pour cela, il est nécessaire de les adapter au contexte de l’entreprise afin d’en favoriser l’adoption et l’intégration, ce que l’on appelle la localisation des ODD. Peu de connaissances existent sur la localisation des ODD dans le secteur privé. L’organisme AluQuébec vise à faire du Québec le symbole mondial de l’aluminium durable en intégrant les ODD. Afin d’accompagner AluQuébec dans cet objectif, ce stage propose d’adapter les cibles des ODD à la réalité des entreprises qui interviennent dans les étapes de fabrication de l’aluminium et de développer un outil qui leur permettra de déterminer quelles cibles viser en priorité. Le projet développera les connaissances en développement durable des intervenants de l’industrie de l’aluminium. Ces connaissances seront transférables à d’autres secteurs de l’économie.

Insects, mummies and funerary practices: contribution of archaeoentomology, paleoparasitology and 3D imaging to the study of pre-Hispanic mummies of the central coast of Peru

This research mission in the Bioarchaeology Imaging Laboratory in the Department of Anthropology at Western University, under the direction of Andrew Nelson will be of unprecedented relevance for the thesis I am undertaking: Insects, mummies and funerary practices: contribution of archaeoentomology, paleoparasitology and 3D imaging to the study of pre-Hispanic mummies of the central coast of Peru. Archaeoentomology is the study of insect assemblages, mainly synanthropic, recovered from archaeological contexts. When insect remains are recovered from funerary contexts, their analysis is carried out using the principles and methods of forensic entomology. The application of these data in archaeological contexts provides precise information on the history of the corpse, its taphonomy, but also on the funerary practices of ancient societies. One of the key axes of this work is the development of a 3D protocol allowing a non-invasive archaeoentomological study of the mummy bundles. The use of computed tomography and sophisticated image processing to detect insect remains inside mummy bundles is a promising tool for archaeoentomology.
