An Evaluation of the Procedural Justice Training for the Barrie Police Service Staff

The procedural justice model emphasizes the key role of police behavior in generating compliance. This concept suggests that citizens will be more satisfied and less likely to resist when police explain their actions, show that they work for the wellbeing of the community, and act respectfully. In the proposed evaluation project, the outcomes of a two-day training program for the Barrie Police Service staff on Procedural Justice will be evaluated through a one-group pretest-posttest design and follow-up interviews. The two-day training intends to change the officer behavior and the nature of police citizen interactions. The goal of this project is to assess officers’ expressed support for the procedural justice concept and to enhance their support for procedural justice strategies in daily policing practices. Consequently, we will measure to what extent procedural justice is internalized by officers after receiving the training.
