Renewable Energy: Development in Ukraine based on the experience of Canada.

The research project aims to assess the current situation and future prospects for the transition to renewable energy generation in Ukraine. The need of such transition has become urgent since the Russian invasion of Ukraine which made dependency on fossil fuels one of the key exploits by Russia on the European political arena. As European countries are struggling to transition to renewable energy, Ukraine faces extraordinary challenges because the biggest part of energy generators and distribution systems were destroyed. The experience of Canada – one of the world leaders in the renewable energy generation, presents an invaluable learning resource for Ukraine. This project will assess the advantages and obstacles expanding capacity of each of the five major renewable energy sources: hydropower, wind, solar, geothermal and biomass energy. While the costs of the installations of these energy generators are purely economic, the benefits come from significant implications at the geopolitical level, potentially leading to a global power shift. Our research aims to study these geopolitical changes, assess available resource potential, and delineate the advantages associated with the integration of renewable energy sources. Furthermore, Ukraine’s experience in a rapid transition to renewable energy will provide valuable insights for European nations and Canada.
