The Economic Burden of Denosumab on the Canadian Healthcare System and the Implications of the Introduction of Sandoz’s Biosimilar: A Medico-Economic and Comparative Analysis

This project will examine how the use of Jubbonti and Wyost, two biosimilar medications recently launched in Canada, can help reduce healthcare costs while maintaining access to high-quality treatment. These biosimilars are approved alternatives to a widely used biologic drug for treating osteoporosis and bone complications related to cancer. Working with the pharmaceutical company Sandoz, the intern will estimate the potential cost savings for hospitals and public payers, based on different levels of biosimilar adoption. The project will also involve creating a practical internal tool to help Sandoz prepare hospital and institutional submissions more efficiently. The results will support the company’s efforts to expand the use of these treatments and help the healthcare system provide more affordable options to patients.
