International Characters has developed a variety of software tools that, when used together, can produce very?high?speed and high?quality text processing programs. These tools are usable only by specialist experts: they are not robust, easy to use, or easy to extend. The goal of this project is to bring these tools together into a single application, […]

Our proposed research investigates how K-12 teachers learn and customize digital classroom tools and learning management systems and how they share this information with each other. In particular, we will be working with our partner Microsoft to investigate the use and customization of the recently developed OneNote Class Notebooks software that is increasingly being used […]

Buildings represent up to 40% of primary energy consumption. To optimize that energy cost vs. the comfort of its occupants, Facility Management (FM) relies on data from sensors, and on automation, to increase efficiency. The majority of existing buildings however have limited automation, so it is up to Facility Managers to interpret and act upon […]

Mental health issues affect a large percentage of the military population. The HERE4U Military Version will be an instant messaging smartphone application to connect military family members (adults only) who are dealing with mental health problems to a mental health counseling solution that uses the IBM Watson cognitive platform. Being able to engage with Watson […]

This collaborative project with Rimeware will investigate out-of-band measurement approaches that can passively monitor the network traffic and provide rich detailed network information, e.g., latency, loss, route path, etc. The goal is to build a programmable system for accurate, generic, and robust network measurement. It includes two sub projects. In the first sub-project, we will […]

Phenotyping is used to develop new strains of plants, understand plant-affecting diseases (phytopathology) and evaluate the effects of various substances on plants. A growing variety of sensors and sensor technology is used to gather data used for phenotyping, in a non-destructive manner, and this overall process of data acquisition and analysis is being automated, leading […]

Quality control in manufacturing can be a challenge. While many use AR (Augmented Reality) to reduce error in training processes or to assist with the assembly process, this research will introduce AR as a means of performing quality checks while the worker is assembling, thus allowing him or her to do two jobs at once. […]

In this project, the intern will be tasked with improving the visibility testing algorithms in a commercial simulation software product. In the software, a large number of entities (such as military forces or emergency response personnel, including vehicles and people) are moving around on a two-dimensional map. The inter-entity visibility (that is, which entities are […]

Ransomware consists of malicious software that after infecting a target device prevents the device owner from using effectively the corresponding resources until the demands of the ransomware operator are met usually by paying a ransom, typically using cryptocurrencies. Despite the growing number of ransomware infections, their increasing sophistication, and their significant financial and operational impact, […]

The goal of the project is to evaluate the effectiveness of video as medium of delivery and consumption of large quantity of digital information. The team will create an automated way to generate videos for properties and rental information so as to reduce costs on manual video creation and build user profiles based on smart […]
